Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa consistently receives positive reviews highlighting its stunning beachfront location, beautiful grounds, and excellent service. However, some guests have reported issues with room cleanliness, pool maintenance, and occasional staffing shortages, particularly during the off-season. The resort’s commitment to personalized service, as exemplified by staff like Ginny Davis and Elias, often elevates the guest experience.
If you can swing it this place is magic. It’s on the beach, has outdoor and indoor pools and the grounds invite you to relax. It is truly a resort so that you can stay on property and have everything you need or leave and enjoy the towns. We have enjoyed staying in and off season and it’s always a good experience though I will say that off season is underrated. Less crowds means more peace because we all know sitting on the road highways in traffic is not fun. I will also say that staff there are always welcoming. Everyone there is helpful and you can tell they want to be there which makes your that much more pleasant.
I proposed to my fiancé at Gurney's back in late February. While the proposal itself was perfect, our first stay actually had some hitches that didn't quite live up to what we expected from the resort. However, the way they handled everything afterward is exactly why this place is world class. Virginia (Ginny) Davis reached out personally to apologize and went way out of her way to welcome us back this May for a comped stay. Her attention to detail was amazing. She worked with me to get some of our engagement photos printed and set them up in the room before we checked in. It was such a thoughtful move that my fiancé really felt touched by. She also greeted us in person at the spa and checked in with us through out the stay if everything was going well. Between the chilled Prosecco, the handwritten notes, and Ginny personally making sure our friend group had spots at the Seawater Spa bathhouse, every detail felt taken care of. She even got us into a great mixology class. You might see some reviews saying the resort can get busy, but Ginny proves that the team here really cares about their guests' stories. They didn’t just fix a stay; they made our engagement celebration feel truly special. If you are planning any kind of big milestone, you definitely want to work with Ginny. We will definitely be returning every year :)
Amazing location and top notch customer service. Our room was right on the beach but our shower didn't drain well and got back up. The room was a bit small as well to be honest. It's definitely $$$ and the food and cocktails were kinda just "okay" but that's coming from a foodie so grain of salt..
My boyfriend and I have been coming to Gurney's for a few years and love the resort and spa. It's a great place to have a drink by the firepit at sunset. And the spa is amazing! The pool has a beautiful view overlooking the ocean. The massages and facials using Osea products leave me glowing. Can't wait to come back!
Went here during the off seaso. The price was a little cheaper but the quality was much lower unfortunately. We got there and the saltwater pool wasn't working, no hot water pools were working nor was their heated benches. The sauna wasn't really hot. The staff available is very little so you arent getting much service help. Free drinks dont get replaced and run out quick. Our rooms were beautiful and clean however the TV wasn't working well, the heating wasn't working well and once they finally came after a while to fix the heating, our lights went out in the living room. For off season amenities should work since its still cold out so we need to enjoy amenities more. We booked our massages and they forgot to cancel one of them and wanted us to pay for it. Finally at check out they argued with us about paying for the massages again. At 1st stating we didnt pay with our card and then finally after 30mins they found the charge and said its a holder charge and will drop so we need to pay at check out. The charge is still pending its been 4days. I am just hoping because it was off season it wasn't good but if things worked and there was more staff this place is beautiful, a luxury vibe and the food is good. They do allow dogs which is a plus.
We had an amazing experience during off-season - we had an ocean front room which was absolutely beautiful! The spa experience was tremendous! Overall, the service was amazing, courteous and attentive. The Manager at GiGi’s, Dmitri, was warm and welcoming - definitely recommend stopping there for the shrimp cocktail!! Overall, had an amazing time and happy we did it during off-season!!!
My family has stayed at Gurney’s Montauk for a few nights during February break for the last 6 years. The staff and service at Gurney’s will always be what keeps us coming back. This time around, there were some problems with our room. However, Ingrid at the front desk was able to kindly switch our room and made sure we enjoyed our stay. Carlos brought our bags from the car to our room and then helped us move everything when we switched rooms. He even brought two adorable lobster plushies with the Gurney’s logo to give to our kids. He did everything he could to make sure we had a great trip and it really meant so much to us. The pool heater was broken for the length of our stay. With young kids, we plan on staying at the pool with them for a large amount of time. The pool was too cold to enjoy it this time around. This was unfortunate timing, during a school break and many children at the hotel. We ate at Gigi’s and enjoyed breakfast and dinner there. We also reserved an igloo one night and had a great time playing games in there. Gurneys charges a $50 “donation” to reserve the igloo and then there is a minimum food and beverage amount that you must spend. They do not tell you where the donation goes and the waiter actually said he doesn’t know what it’s for. This “donation” fee should really be more transparent. While there were some hiccups this trip, we still enjoyed ourselves and we know we’ll be back. The staff has always been so accommodating and their service really did cancel out any of the issues that popped up during our trip. Thanks to everyone, especially Ingrid and Carlos! See you next year…
We stayed at Gurney’s Montauk this past weekend and were extremely disappointed, especially given the premium pricing and reputation. The bath house was closed, which was never clearly communicated in advance. On top of that, the resort advertised a movie night in the pool that simply did not happen. We planned our entire day around this event. I understand that things can come up, but there was zero communication—no call, no sign by the pool, no update of any kind. Had we been informed, we easily could have adjusted our plans. What made the experience worse was the interaction with the manager Saturday night, who was completely rude and dismissive when I raised the issue. There was no accountability, no apology, and certainly no attempt to make things right. If Gurney’s wants to attract guests during the slower winter months, they need to deliver the high-end service that matches their pricing and branding. Unfortunately, this stay felt more like false advertising paired with poor service than a luxury experience. For the cost, this was simply not acceptable. Double and triple check before making the trip that the resort is running and all the advertised services are in place!
I wanted to take the time to write a review about Gurney's in Montauk. My girlfriend and I have stayed there last February and this past November. We thoroughly enjoyed our February trip and this last trip in November we got a one bedroom suite which was not ocean front. The room was beautiful and had alot of space. More than the oceanfront rooms. We wanted an ocean front room and the manager and staff could not have been more accommodating. They wanted us to be happy! Once we got into our oceanfront room we were very happy. Raphael at the bar makes a tremendous drink. I remembered Raphael from the previous trip. The old fashioned was delicious and the Cosmo my gal Loved!!! I need to mention Mimmo. Mimmo was in charge of the dinning room. Last time I was there the dinning room was under construction. It was nice to see the new room which is beautiful and the Bar is really nice and long. Mimmo could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Really, Such a lovely man. Thank You again Mimmo. All in All, I have to say. I LOVE GURNEYS. The location is pristine. I live in the North Shore of Long Island so it is under 2 Hours. CANT WAIT TO GO BACKKKKKK!!!!
Granted it was off season so this might not be applicable in summer. Probably this hotel is not meant to be offering rooms in winter. Our room was upgraded on arrival which meant we got a sofa in it and it was ground level. The room heating was struggling and at 1 am stopped working and smelled like something burnt out. I called reception and was told that that was strange and didn't pursue any further. At some point in the night the window door swung open and by 6am our room was 56F. The room nextdoor, which was empty, had also a fully opened window door. Dinner was okay. Breakfast was sad. Next night I was in bed fully clothed and with a winter hat, maintainance came and tried to fix our heating till 10pm when I requested a room change. They did, thanks to maintenance. We were happy to get out of there next morning. The spa on the other hand was worth every penny, we loved our massages and would definitely recommend them.
