Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa consistently receives positive feedback for its oceanfront location, beautiful rooms, and excellent service, particularly highlighted by staff like Carlos and Raphael. However, recent reviews have raised concerns regarding inconsistent service, issues with room amenities (like heating and accessibility), and unexpected fees, such as the igloo donation. Despite these issues, many guests express a strong desire to return, appreciating the overall ambiance and spa experience.

We had an amazing experience during off-season - we had an ocean front room which was absolutely beautiful! The spa experience was tremendous! Overall, the service was amazing, courteous and attentive. The Manager at GiGi’s, Dmitri, was warm and welcoming - definitely recommend stopping there for the shrimp cocktail!! Overall, had an amazing time and happy we did it during off-season!!!

My family has stayed at Gurney’s Montauk for a few nights during February break for the last 6 years. The staff and service at Gurney’s will always be what keeps us coming back. This time around, there were some problems with our room. However, Ingrid at the front desk was able to kindly switch our room and made sure we enjoyed our stay. Carlos brought our bags from the car to our room and then helped us move everything when we switched rooms. He even brought two adorable lobster plushies with the Gurney’s logo to give to our kids. He did everything he could to make sure we had a great trip and it really meant so much to us. The pool heater was broken for the length of our stay. With young kids, we plan on staying at the pool with them for a large amount of time. The pool was too cold to enjoy it this time around. This was unfortunate timing, during a school break and many children at the hotel. We ate at Gigi’s and enjoyed breakfast and dinner there. We also reserved an igloo one night and had a great time playing games in there. Gurneys charges a $50 “donation” to reserve the igloo and then there is a minimum food and beverage amount that you must spend. They do not tell you where the donation goes and the waiter actually said he doesn’t know what it’s for. This “donation” fee should really be more transparent. While there were some hiccups this trip, we still enjoyed ourselves and we know we’ll be back. The staff has always been so accommodating and their service really did cancel out any of the issues that popped up during our trip. Thanks to everyone, especially Ingrid and Carlos! See you next year…

We stayed at Gurney’s Montauk this past weekend and were extremely disappointed, especially given the premium pricing and reputation. The bath house was closed, which was never clearly communicated in advance. On top of that, the resort advertised a movie night in the pool that simply did not happen. We planned our entire day around this event. I understand that things can come up, but there was zero communication—no call, no sign by the pool, no update of any kind. Had we been informed, we easily could have adjusted our plans. What made the experience worse was the interaction with the manager Saturday night, who was completely rude and dismissive when I raised the issue. There was no accountability, no apology, and certainly no attempt to make things right. If Gurney’s wants to attract guests during the slower winter months, they need to deliver the high-end service that matches their pricing and branding. Unfortunately, this stay felt more like false advertising paired with poor service than a luxury experience. For the cost, this was simply not acceptable. Double and triple check before making the trip that the resort is running and all the advertised services are in place!

I wanted to take the time to write a review about Gurney's in Montauk. My girlfriend and I have stayed there last February and this past November. We thoroughly enjoyed our February trip and this last trip in November we got a one bedroom suite which was not ocean front. The room was beautiful and had alot of space. More than the oceanfront rooms. We wanted an ocean front room and the manager and staff could not have been more accommodating. They wanted us to be happy! Once we got into our oceanfront room we were very happy. Raphael at the bar makes a tremendous drink. I remembered Raphael from the previous trip. The old fashioned was delicious and the Cosmo my gal Loved!!! I need to mention Mimmo. Mimmo was in charge of the dinning room. Last time I was there the dinning room was under construction. It was nice to see the new room which is beautiful and the Bar is really nice and long. Mimmo could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Really, Such a lovely man. Thank You again Mimmo. All in All, I have to say. I LOVE GURNEYS. The location is pristine. I live in the North Shore of Long Island so it is under 2 Hours. CANT WAIT TO GO BACKKKKKK!!!!

Granted it was off season so this might not be applicable in summer. Probably this hotel is not meant to be offering rooms in winter. Our room was upgraded on arrival which meant we got a sofa in it and it was ground level. The room heating was struggling and at 1 am stopped working and smelled like something burnt out. I called reception and was told that that was strange and didn't pursue any further. At some point in the night the window door swung open and by 6am our room was 56F. The room nextdoor, which was empty, had also a fully opened window door. Dinner was okay. Breakfast was sad. Next night I was in bed fully clothed and with a winter hat, maintainance came and tried to fix our heating till 10pm when I requested a room change. They did, thanks to maintenance. We were happy to get out of there next morning. The spa on the other hand was worth every penny, we loved our massages and would definitely recommend them.

My husband and I have made a tradition of visiting Gurney’s every winter for a relaxing weekend, and it has always been something we truly look forward to. Unfortunately, this year’s experience did not meet the standard we’ve come to expect. We had a scheduled couples massage, but when we arrived at the locker rooms, there were no robes available. We had to wait for someone to locate and bring robes to us, which caused us to be late for our appointment. Because of this delay, the massage therapist seemed visibly annoyed, and the tone of the experience felt off from the start. After our massage, we typically enjoy sitting outside with blankets to relax, but there was a shortage of blankets and we had to wait. The refreshment area was also disappointing, as the tea station was empty and poorly stocked. When it was time to visit the bathhouse, there were no towels available at all. Overall, the experience felt very disorganized. We chose Gurney’s to unwind and relax, but instead it felt frustrating and aggravating. Given how much we value this annual tradition, we were genuinely disappointed by the lack of preparation and attention to detail during our stay. I wanted to share this feedback in hopes that it can be addressed, as this experience was not reflective of the quality we’ve enjoyed in the past.

This has been on my list of dream places to stay. We’ve visited so many times for lunch and coffee but it was the first time we stayed. The room was beautiful with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the ocean front view. The products in the bathroom and the nespresso were both so good! The kids loved swimming in the pool in winter. Although I didn’t book a treatment in the spa I did take a shower and it felt like I came out of treatment. Love the Christmas vibe and the ambiance at dinner. It was just perfect.

Stayed here on Christmas eve with my wife. Its a very nice venue right on the water. We ate at Gigi's, the food was very good. it was a clear night, tons of stars in the sky, i nice change from the blinding city lights. Can be pricey in the summer, its Montauk, what to you expect? I'd recommend for a nice getaway.

My fiancé and I stayed at Gurney’s in October 2025 for a wedding in which I was a member of the bridal party. We spent approximately $2,000 for a two-night stay, even after the group discount, and unfortunately the experience did not meet expectations. To be clear, this in no way reflects the wedding itself — my friend’s celebration and every event planned by her was absolutely beautiful. While the valet staff were polite, the requirement to valet the car for every arrival and departure became a significant inconvenience—especially for my fiancé, who was not involved in the wedding events and needed to come and go throughout the day. Our room was clean and presentable, but it did not reflect the premium price point. The shower’s water pressure was poor, and there was noticeable chipping paint throughout the bathroom ceiling. Additionally, the refrigerator had very limited space for personal items, and there was no microwave available—despite no complimentary breakfast or food options being provided. The view was beautiful, but that is something you can enjoy from many other locations in Montauk without the excessive price tag. Most concerning was the loss of my fiancé’s newly purchased suit jacket. He briefly stepped away near the end of the reception, and when he returned, the event space had already been fully cleared. The jacket—which contained his Ray-Ban sunglasses and a silver bracelet belonging to me—was gone and could not be recovered. It has taken me some time to write this review, as we attended several other weddings across Long Island afterward and wanted to fairly compare the experiences. Unfortunately, those weddings were significantly more affordable and still provided far better service and accommodations. We are not seeking compensation or a refund—only to share our honest experience in hopes that these issues are addressed for future guests. A luxury resort charging premium rates should deliver a premium level of comfort, service, and security, and that was not our experience here. We truly hope future guests receive the level of quality and care that a property like this should consistently provide.

I have stayed at Gurney's Montauk Resort several times before and I have aways had a great experience. That is why I booked this past weekend to propose to the love of my life. I left a note with the desk while booking the ocean view suite that I had arranged to have our special moment in Montauk and would love to host celebrations afterwards at their resort. It was not long after that Ginny Davis contacted me and took a strong lead in pulling out all the stops to make this moment so special and amazing. The entire staff was so welcoming and helpful. I will certainly be booking another visit to this beautiful resort in the place that hold such a significant spot in my families heart... Montauk The End.
