This dining establishment holds a split reputation, praised for exceptional cuisine and a stylish atmosphere but frequently criticized for poor service, cramped seating, and high prices. Guests experienced inconsistent management, from rude host interactions to lacking event coordination support.
Mixed feelings about this place. Made early reservations for a Valentine’s Day dinner, 5 PM. We arrived at 4:55. They were already two other couples ahead of us and I heard the host (I think he is the manager) pretty much admonish the people before us for arriving early because they were not ready yet. He did the same to us. This is pretty appalling, considering the target customer base for upscale, small dining restaurant. Chastising guests for arriving five minutes early is rude beyond words and left an immediate poor impression on us. We were seated to the right of the fireplace along the back of the dining room. This was a nice cozy location, however, there was literally 5 inches or less between the three small tables they crammed along this wall. This was completely a result of greed on the owners behalf. The dining room is small, but not that small and there is another dining area to the left of where you check in on the other side. The other tables were very spaced out. Where we sat, only two could be seated at a table. The couple next to us had to literally pull out the table for the lady to sit because there’s no way anybody could squeeze in between the tables. I wish I took a picture and measured it because it was less than the length of a hand. Because we were so damn close to the people next to us and everybody else, we could not really concentrate on our own conversation because all we heard was the people next to us (no fault of their own). I’m sure they have the same problem with us. Regarding service, our server was good although we did notice she asked everybody else that she seated if they were celebrating any other special occasions. We were not asked that question and we were in fact celebrating a special event. Service was attentive and food came out quickly, although it was a bit rushed. There wasn’t time in between courses to really enjoy the meal and conversation. The owner or manager was circulating in the dining room, but only went to select tables to check on them and they were clearly locals who frequent this little restaurant. One of the regular couples had their little non-service dog sitting in the booth with them, which I’m sure put off some other guests. The food was good. The drinks were ok - nothing special, and the presentation of the food was nice as well. The portions were small in comparison to other restaurants at this price point. The pretentious nature of how this restaurant is run and the cheap skating of trying to cram as many tables as humanly possible into the small space was a major turnoff. With so many other fine dining options in the area, you can skip this one based on those two factors alone. When you pay these prices, you expect everything to be good, not just the food. That’s only part of a fine dining experience. The food cannot save this place (it’s only good, not great). They need some staff training of what makes a positive total dining experience for guests.
Our experience with The North Fork Table & Inn was a bit of a rollercoaster. Throughout the seven months of planning our wedding, communication was unfortunately inconsistent and, at times, quite unprofessional. The process often felt frustrating and unclear, which made what should have been an exciting time far more stressful than anticipated. That said, toward the end of the planning process, Kate the event manager and Marc property manager truly turned things around. Their involvement brought a noticeable change — they were attentive, responsive, and genuinely dedicated to making sure our day went smoothly. In the end, everything came together beautifully. The event itself was executed flawlessly, the food was absolutely exceptional, and our guests could not stop complimenting the meal and the overall experience. While the journey to get there was challenging, the final result was undeniably worth it. We’re grateful that the day turned out as wonderful as it did.
NEVER AGAIN!! my husband and I always came here at least once a year for either a birthday or anniversary celebration. We noticed the service and portions decrease over the years. We haven’t been there in two years and decided to try it again. My husband made a reservation, didn’t realize he was making one for outdoor outdoors, but why would you have outdoor reservations for the end of October? when we arrive, they told us it was an outdoor reservation, and said would you like to see what it is like outside. We said yes. We went outside and it was windy and freezing. We said I don’t think this will work. They did not try to accommodate us in anyway. We live in Southold and often go out to dinner. We will never come here again. Not only were they unaccommodating, but it was also my birthday celebration. We found a wonderful place in Greenport and had a great night! Goodbye Northport table Inn!
Loved everything about this place! The duck was incredible — super juicy and tender inside with the perfect crispy skin on the outside. The mixed grill came with five different kinds of fish, each cooked perfectly and full of its own unique flavor. The sauce was amazing — kind of like a rich fish broth with layers of flavor that are hard to describe but so, so good. The apple pie with meringue was such a fun surprise — fresh, soft, and had just the right bit of crunch. Our server was really attentive, and the decor was beautiful but not pretentious — just a warm, classy vibe all around. Definitely one of the best meals I’ve had on the North Fork!
The restaurant and bar has a stylish, low-lit nomadic theme that creates a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the experience quickly went downhill from there. When we sat in the bar area, we noticed cobwebs hanging from the light fixtures above our table — a small detail that set the tone for the evening. Service was very disappointing. It took 45 minutes just to receive drinks, and once our food arrived, the waitress never returned to check on us. My chicken dish was fine but far from memorable, especially considering the price. My date’s burger special was undercooked, and her fries were so overcooked they were practically inedible. What stood out most was the lack of attention to detail, not just in the food and service, but in management as well. The manager observed issues throughout the dining room yet made no effort to intervene or support the staff. Overall, while the atmosphere is appealing, the high prices are not justified. The food needs serious improvement, and the staff would benefit from better training and leadership.
This restaurant is not what it used to be. Culinary standards seem to have dropped while prices have risen and portion size has diminished. How do you justify charging $44 for 5oz of swordfish with a dollop of mashed potatoes and then charging an additional $12 for the bordelaise sauce that the waiter recommended but failed to point out was an extra cost. Totally excessive. Also, $96 for a young Paumanok Chenin Blanc vs $76 for a great French white burgundy just shows the awful price/value/quality proposition of North Fork wines. The food truck remains a great resource, though. Great option for lunch.
My boyfriend and I sat in the bar room for burger night last night . It was fantastic ! Service, vibe , and food! Home run ! He ordered beef tartar and seafood platter and I ordered the burger and squash appetizer. We loved everything. He said at one point this is the best bread I’ve ever had in my life ! We loved the bottle of macari wine we split at our meal. Excellent experience highly recommend it for couples or solo dining experience at the bar. High end top notch cozy and chic decor
