The Residence Inn Hauppauge - Islandia receives mixed reviews, with significant concerns regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and guest satisfaction. While some guests praise the helpful and friendly staff, numerous reports detail issues such as pest infestations, outdated facilities, and a lack of responsiveness from management, particularly regarding serious complaints.
On arrival we were greeted by rude front desk staff. The breakfast chef was rude also, like he is forced to work there. Navigation inside the hotel is confusing. Other staff were really good and had positive attitude.
I stayed here for 8 nights and had an extremely disappointing experience. My original handicapped-accessible room had a significant ant infestation, including ants on clothing and throughout the carpet near the window. I have an anaphylactic allergy to ants and carry an EpiPen, making this a serious health concern. The room itself felt poorly maintained, with very outdated kitchen areas and old worn carpeting throughout. The toilet also frequently clogged during the stay, adding to the ongoing inconvenience. After reporting the ANTS issue, housekeeping later entered while we were bathing, and the response from front desk staff was dismissive and unprofessional. We were then moved from the accessible room into another room with a strong wet/musty odor suggestive of mold or mildew, which was another issue due to my allergies. Despite multiple room-condition and safety concerns during a stay totaling over $1,600, there was little meaningful service recovery or accommodation offered. Very disappointing experience overall.
At the end of March I had the pleasure of staying at this property. From the moment Yasmin Davidson checked me in, it was a flawless experience. I’m not one to write reviews but when you get this level of warmth and service from someone like Yasmin, it’s important to shout them out. My room was lovely and spotless and I’ll definitely be back when it’s time for another visit to see the family. Thank you!
Everyone who works here is super friendly - from the front desk to housekeeping. And the room was clean. Unfortunately, that’s the only good news. This hotel has clearly seen better days and desperately needs a refresh. You can hear all the water running through the pipes whenever your neighbor is using their bathroom. Our kitchen sink was rusty and the entire faucet moved when you wanted hot or cold water. Lots of dents in the refrigerator door. The carpet looked dull and worn out. All the furniture showed visible signs of wear and tear. There are few choices in the area, perhaps drive an extra 15-20 minutes to find a better hotel.
Hotel was located just around the corner from where I needed to be so that was great. The room was a bit dated but it had all the necessary appliances. There is a pool, though we didn’t use it. There is also an exercise room.
Staff was always going above & beyond! Front desk (daytime, evening, and overnight) all helpful, friendly. Maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen, porters (not sure what the men were called, but cleaned up around the building, just not necessarily in the rooms) were all wonderful. I needed to do extended stay for a year I never once did I have a complaint and never once did I see any of the staff members with a frown, in a bad mood or not 100% willing to help me what even the silliest of requests. And they never got annoyed that probably three or four times a week. I would need a new card because I locked myself out of the room once again. Lol. I don’t want to end without mentioning “Marge” Marjorie Monty the General Manager and probably the nicest woman I have ever met in my life (& I MEAN THAT) and the Asst General Manager Robert Peterson who were amazing and helped to make me feel like I was at a home away from home as like I mentioned I was here a year with my two children, and it was not an ideal situation, but they and the entire staff made it feel as close to home as it could. I almost felt like they were family or maybe like my neighbors… I can’t explain… I just know while they were very professional and helpful and friendly… You just need a situation that wasn’t the best really about the best that it possibly could be and I will be forever grateful.
Staff was very polite and the licatiom was good. The bathroom in the room i stayed in needs work. The wall behind the toilet appeared to be moldy.
As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I’ve always trusted the brand for its quality, cleanliness, and service, but this stay was truly disappointing and unacceptable. We booked two suites for our family from August 30 to September 1, 2025, both located on the first floor. Late on the night of August 30, we discovered a cockroach in one of the rooms, along with old, damaged carpets, a strong unpleasant odour, and poor overall cleanliness. We immediately reported the issue to the front desk that same night, but were told that nothing could be done until the Manager arrived. The next morning, the Assistant Manager, Mr. Peterson, arrived late and acknowledged the problem. He offered a partial refund and the option to cancel the second night, but with cancellation fees. Despite the circumstances, we still had to pay the full amount for one of the rooms. To make matters worse, the Manager stated that “cockroaches are normal in the area” and that there was “no infestation.” That response was shocking and unprofessional. No guest books a hotel expecting to find cockroaches in their room, regardless of the location. Guests choose hotels for comfort, hygiene, and safety, not excuses. We decided to check out early on August 31 and moved to the Marriott Melville Long Island, where our stay was completely different and finally met the standards we expect from the Marriott brand. I also reported everything to Marriott Bonvoy Customer Service. Despite multiple follow-ups, the hotel never contacted me directly, and the case was closed without resolution. Customer Service later informed me that they don’t handle pest-related incidents and that only the property could take action. They added 5,000 Bonvoy points as a goodwill gesture, which does not reflect the seriousness of the issue or the inconvenience caused. What disappointed me most was how this entire experience went against Marriott’s own core values — Putting People First, Pursuing Excellence, Embracing Change, Acting with Integrity, and Serving Our World. There was no accountability, no empathy, and no integrity shown by the property’s management. Cleanliness, respect, and care for guests are fundamental to hospitality and those values were completely missing here. I truly hope Marriott’s leadership reviews this situation and ensures this property upholds the standards and values that loyal guests like myself expect and trust.
This place is run down.the shower had a crack in the wall and rugs in suite. Needs a makeover. It is located short drive to Stonebridge golf course. They also have people permanently living in this hotel. Breakfast also ended at 9:30am.
Horrible beds and zero accountability — ruined our vacation plans I booked a weeklong stay here over 3 months in advance, but we were forced to check out after just one night due to the extremely uncomfortable beds. They were so soft and unsupportive that both I and my 72-year-old mother woke up in pain. We couldn’t endure another night, so we had to scramble to book last-minute accommodations at the Residence Inn in Holtsville — completely disrupting our vacation. To make matters worse, a man who falsely identified himself as the manager offered no help whatsoever when I requested a refund for the miserable single night we endured. Instead, I was charged $501 for one night in a room with beds that caused us pain and forced us to relocate. The experience was not only physically uncomfortable but financially unfair. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially those with back issues or seniors traveling with you.
