The Ram’s Head Inn offers a romantic and relaxing getaway with a breathtaking location and excellent dining, consistently praised for its atmosphere and service. Recent guests highlighted the charm of the inn and live entertainment, but some have experienced issues with amenities and value.
We had a wonderful stay at the Ram’s Head Inn. The location is breathtaking and very peaceful. The staff made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Nicholas, the manager, was kind enough to give us a tour of the Inn and even introduced us to the newborn baby rams in the garden. We spent some time relaxing with a warm drink in the parlor, playing chess by the fireplace while watching the sunset. There was a live jazz pianist in the evening which we enjoyed listening to while having dinner. The meal was excellent from start to finish, the sticky toffee pudding alone is worth a visit. We found our room to be very cozy and well appointed, the bed was firm but comfortable and the view of the garden was lovely. The whole experience was very romantic and relaxing. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Rams Head Inn for Valentine’s Day, and it was such a cozy and romantic experience. We booked last minute, and Matt at the front desk was incredibly helpful and made everything so easy. He was friendly, professional, and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. We also had dinner at the Inn, and the food was excellent. The cabaret music during dinner made the whole night feel really special. Overall, it was a perfect Valentine’s getaway, and we would definitely come back again.
Amazing as always! Stayed here for Valentines day eve. Every aspect was perfect and the dinner and lounge singers were incredible! One of the best duck dishes I ever had.
We had a beautiful day at The Ram's Head Inn. We were there for Winterfest and it was great! They had a ton of activities for kids: cookie decorating, a hot chocolate station, s'mores, bird feeder making, sheep to feed, bocci, hammocks to chill in, tetherball, a letter- to- Santa writing station, then a tree lighting ceremony and Santa himself showed up. There was also a piano player in the bar playing Christmas music! It was a wonderful place to spend a whole day.
Came for dinner one night. It was a three course meal and each course was slow to come out which is strange since they should have plenty of time in advance. I had the pasta bolognese, it had Wagyu beef, which clearly didn’t add to the ragu. I also was able to have both desserts which were both too sweet, one of which came from a box and was terrible (brownie).
Well, I suppose every story needs a villain, and in this one, “no WiFi” and “a red lounger from The Shining” seem to have stolen the spotlight. As someone who’s been to The Ram’s Head Inn more times than I can count, I can confidently say this isn’t a scene from a horror movie — unless your personal nightmare involves award-winning food, sunsets over the water, and live jazz under the stars. Yes, it’s an inn, not a Marriott (mercifully). The WiFi may take the occasional nap, but that’s half the charm — it forces you to look up and realize where you actually are. The “overpriced stew” you mention — I’m fairly sure that was the short rib bourguignon, which most of us consider one of the highlights of the menu. As for the owner, I’ve seen them everywhere — greeting guests, checking on tables, carrying trays, and yes, sometimes even grabbing a bite with friends. That’s called being human, not inattentive. Some of us come here precisely to escape the corporate sameness and rediscover what hospitality actually feels like — warm, personal, and a little bit timeless. So while you were counting the hours to leave, I was counting the waves hitting the shore, glass in hand, thinking how lucky I was to be right where I was.
Location is beautiful. I couldn’t sleep didn’t get WiFi on ck in extremely disappointed in room. Sorry stay at a Marriot not worth the money. Atmospher is nice but food was much to be desired. The owner was at end with a gentleman eating and wasn’t pleasant. To me if you own a quaint inn you work it. My bf took me here thinking it would be nice let’s just say from a female standpoint I would avoid. Unless you want to sit in a horrible read Lounger in a shining novel. This could be a good nice place but now it needs alot of work and an attentive owner. A guest shouldn’t be left with no wi fi. I’m counting the hours I can get out of here so that sad if that explains it. Avoid.
What a special place! Had a wonderful stay at Rams Head Inn - the decor and service was perfect. The wine list was fun and Nick, the GM, was so hospitable! Would definitely go back.
Beautiful property on the water on Shelter Island. Rooms are small but they’re very clean and updated. The Manager Nick & the team were very attentive and helpful. Would happily come back and stay again
A Disappointing Stay at Ram’s Head Inn – Overpriced and Underwhelming Ram’s Head Inn boasts a picturesque setting and a reputation for elegance, but my recent stay fell far short of expectations—especially for the exorbitant price of over $400 per night. While the ambiance and location are undeniably charming, the accommodations left much to be desired. Most shocking was the discovery that my room’s bathroom had to be shared with another guest room. At this price point, a private en-suite bathroom should be a given, not a luxury withheld. The inconvenience of coordinating with strangers for basic amenities was both awkward and unacceptable for a supposedly high-end establishment. For a fraction of the cost, one could book a luxury hotel with far superior privacy and amenities. The lack of attention to this fundamental detail makes it difficult to justify the premium pricing. While the staff was courteous and the setting lovely, these positives cannot compensate for such a glaring oversight in comfort and convenience. Ram’s Head Inn has potential, but until they address these basic expectations of luxury, I cannot recommend it to discerning travelers. A truly elegant experience should never come with shared bathrooms at $400 a night.
