The Fire Island Beach House consistently receives overwhelmingly negative reviews, citing issues ranging from severe cleanliness problems like roaches, mold, and bodily fluid stains, to a lack of care and assistance from staff, especially for guests with mobility issues. High prices are compounded by a lack of basic amenities and a generally rundown property. Overall, guests describe a stressful and uncomfortable experience.

Cheap hotel standards with high rates. I would not recommend. Staying here is actually a hazard to your health. No joke.

If you like sleeping with roaches, spiders and black mold then this place is for you. If you like swimming in pools that are slimy, not cared for and crumbling, you'll love it here. If you enjoy bumping elbows with drunk degenerates who mosey on down for a dip without any repercussions as you're paying a couple K for an overpriced room, then don't wait on your next booking. The staff here is something else - they give zero care for any of your concerns. You might as well be camping. Especially since the hot water never really seems to work.

This is the most mixed up review ever. I stayed at FIBH - one of 2 wedding venues recommended in the wedding invitation The location is lovely with a minimalist room that was clean with comfortable beds When I booked, I noted one wedding bride cited how well they treated a guest with mobility issues which I have presently-torn knee and recently broken ankle. I explained to the person who booked me that I needed the least stairs for the room because I have a torn knee to be operated on in October and a recently broken ankle. The room was fine, minimalist (strangely no luggage racks, chair or table inside) but that's ok. The shower was nice and the beds wonderfully comfortable if you like soft. People with broken ankles and knees like soft! It is 3 star. The grounds have a picnic table and easy beach access. The astroturf is a little weird but who cares? The issue was that FiBH did not want to pick me up at the dock with luggage, told me that I could not go in the golf cart because someone sued them when they purposely fell out and could not help me make alternate arrangements. They were definitive that I should not ask in the future. Later, they would not let us even use a cart so my husband could pull me up the road. They claimed the tire was flat although it looked fine. Some of the very nice staff were terrified if they helped me that they would be fired. You might think they would have mentioned this issue at the time of booking so I could have made alternate arrangements with the wedding party ahead of time. Or just not been able to come. This eventuality had not occurred to me when I booked so I missed all the activities the first night which required going back to the dock (they refused to get me back there) and then water taxi to Ocean Beach to the Mermaid. It was mean-spirited and inflexible not even to suggest anything. Ironically, the heavy door to the bathroom had no emergency stop on the slide mechanism and so fell on the bed. If you stay thee, slide that door very slowly!Had we been on the bed, it would have crushed us. Now that is a lawsuit waiting to happen. LOL The following day I called the wedding venue (Flynns) who with the wedding planners kindly had me picked up and returned after the reception. They were surprised at FIBH. This is a problem with the owners and management. Some of the staff wanted to be helpful but were clear they would be fired. It is also a problem with character because there were some staff who just flat out decided it was not their problem. Know that management doesn't give a hoot if guests have these problems. It is sad I missed day1 of the festivities. After the first day, I managed to make arrangements to get places like to the wedding and then back to the dock to go home. It was surprising people turn their back on someone who needed assistance. Is this the new normal? FIBH needs to advertise they are not friendly to those with mobility issues. If someone is having a wedding with guests with mobility issues, they should know they will not be assisted but he hotel-kinda crazy for $500/night although they told me that was very cheap for them-usually it is $1000/night. It created unnecessary stress and was humiliating. FIBH-Just be clear- state on the website that those with mobility issues are not welcome and won't be accommodated. Or FIBH-go figure something else out like a little chain to go across the passenger side of the cart or a paper you could sign relieving FIBH of responsibility. Of course, then they might get sued under the ADA. Or just be human, not assaholic. I was glad I finally got to attend the lovely reception/wedding and many thanks to those who were sympathetic/helpful

Overpriced. No coffee machine nor fridge. Charged extra $50 for pool we never used. But outside there are bikes that you have to pay to use. When asked how to get there, hotel staff didn’t even know the closest pier. We ended up having to walk more than necessary with our luggages.

I probably would have had a better stay at a cheap motel. Worst hotel stay in my life and incredibly overpriced

The location is okay but a lot of things are in disrepair. It doesn't seem like staff really cares about your stay. There were a lot of roaches and the air vents were covered in mold.

They updated some of the cheaper rooms but still have an infestation of roaches. The cleaning staff does not know how to clean and air vents are covered in mold and dust. Amenities are broken and run down. There were bodily fluid stains all over the bedding and furniture. They're incredibly overpriced.

I recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately, my experience was not as pleasant as I had hoped. While the location was convenient, I encountered a few significant issues during my stay. First and foremost, I discovered bedbugs in my room, which was incredibly unsettling and made it difficult to relax. They were literally present in all three beds in the suite. Additionally, I was disappointed to find that there was no full-length mirror available, which would have been helpful for getting ready especially in a suite meant for 5+ guests. Lastly, the lack of adequate in-room furniture made the space feel sparse and uncomfortable- no table, no chairs and no dresser at all. Also, beware that the rooms do not have any mini fridge which would have been useful. Overall, while the hotel had potential, these issues really detracted from my experience. We notified the staff of the bud bugs immediately after finding them, and were met with a complete lack of care or concern from the staff. I hope they can address these concerns for future guests as the stay did not equate the price we paid.

This hotel is very unique, normally hotel staff tries to please their guests and accommodate them. The Fire Island Beach House is not interested in pleasing their guests. I paid $1200.00 a night for a bungalow that sleeps six. It’s also equipped with a kitchen, basically the kitchen is empty. No silverware, one or two cups or glasses. You can’t cook in the pots and pans they were in such bad shape. Their is not table to eat on even if you wanted to cook. They have a nice deck outside with no umbrella or table just some chairs. They gave us 3 bath towels, no hand towels. When I asked for more towels I was told they were in the dryer and to come back in 45 mins (they do not bring it to your room). I was at the pool and we needed pool towels I asked and they said they would go get them out of the dryer. I was standing by the gate of the pool and Jen (the young lady working) walked right past me with the towels and put them on the shelf behind the desk so that I had to go back in the lobby and ask for them again. Don’t expect any hooks to hang anything anywhere in the room and don’t expect hangars in the closets. The sheets and pillow had stains on them. If you want to stay somewhere overpriced and have the bare minimum you should book a stay at the Fire Island Beach House.

Fantastic Beach Getaway at The Fire Island Beach House! We recently stayed at The Fire Island Beach House with a group of 8, ranging in ages 12-40 years old and it exceeded all our expectations. We had a bungalow that was perfect for our group size. The food was outstanding, with a variety of delicious options that catered to all our tastes. The immaculate pool area was a highlight, offering great vibes and a relaxing atmosphere. The beach was absolutely beautiful and just a short walk from our bungalow, making it easy to enjoy the sun and surf whenever we wanted. One of the great features was the availability of bikes to rent right out front, which made it convenient to head into Ocean Beach for ice cream and shopping. There were also several other restaurants in close proximity, giving us plenty of dining options to explore. The location of the hotel is fantastic, just a short 5-minute walk to the ferry, making our arrival and departure a breeze. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and we highly recommend The Fire Island Beach House for anyone looking for a relaxing beach getaway.
