The Belvedere Guest House presents a mixed experience, with reports of a charming, historic atmosphere and friendly staff, but also significant concerns regarding maintenance and aging infrastructure. While some guests consistently praise its unique ambiance and welcoming community, others highlight peeling paint, mold, and outdated facilities.
A Red Roof Inn might be better maintained than this place. I’d say their “no women” rule is outdated and antagonistic, but I don’t think women would stay here even if it was an option. The walls are literally crumbling, moldy smells and peeling wallpaper are common encounters. It’s sad because you can see the promise of something grand, but unfortunately there’s a lack of care that’s seemingly dooming the place to utter dilapidation. Fingers crossed the place gets a facelift and some tlc before it dissolves into the Great South Bay.
A nice place away from the city and in one of the most vibrant communities, Cherry Grove! The rooms were clean and cozy the building has an interesting architecture and it was a good experience overall! With a gym in house, hot tub and pool, also, it’s nice to share and meeting other people, the vibe was friendly all over
DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH Overall quite disappointed, u can tell this used to be a grand & gorgeous place that was once someone's dream. Very overpriced for the quality. Entire place is peeling paint & rotting wood & dirty carpet. Horrible view from room overlooking old filled in swimming pool, now cluttered w/ broken, rusted junk! Room reaked of mold/mildew, the AC squealed all night. Has a nice small pastry, bagel & coffee breakfast. Did love the outdoors shower.
The Belvedere is hands down my favorite place to stay on Fire Island. It's got personality and charm, with gorgeous common spaces for guests to mingle and make connections. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea (see their website for info about their policies and rules) but I always have a great time; there's a kind of magic quality to the place in my opinion.
I have stayed at Belvedere over the past 20 years and it has always been the most enjoyable and relaxing experience. I have never been disappointed and will continue to come year after year. However this time I have to give a special shout-out to Ken, the elegant mastermind staff member who was positioned at the front desk during my stay this year. He was exceptionally friendly, and I have never felt more welcome at Belvedere. He’s also a very hard worker who paid close attention to all matters that came up, addressing them promptly and effortlessly all while maintaining a pleasant disposition that never wavered. He’s dedicated to the operation of the Belvedere legacy, committed to maintaining the highest level of comfort and service that so many of us have enjoyed over the years. Thank you so much for another awesome stay. I’ll see you next year.
Excellent service, very welcoming! The employees are very friendly, I have been in this hotel for several consecutive years and it is excellent that every day they are improving it according to the needs of the clients! On this occasion I could notice a lot that they put electronic locks on the doors of the rooms! very good, it is usually very clean in various areas around the hotel! Excellent because you have the freedom to be yourself! Being able to walk freely at your convenience where stigmas and clothing are an option! Usually the guests are polite and very respectful! The only observation I would say is that the drink vending machines should be improved.
First time staying at the Belvedere, and first time going to Fire Island solo. Loved the guest house! Great staff, other guests were very friendly, rooms were clean, never had an issue with the shared bath. Didn't use the pool because the weather wasn't great, but took full advantage of the hot tub. The coffee and pastries in the morning was nice. Would love to visit again sometime. I stayed in the Violet Chapel room. Small, but nice, and with a private balcony overlooking the bay.
